DAYCARE

STERAMIST iHP™ & BRIGHT HORIZONS

OVERVIEW:

Bright Horizons - the daycare operation of St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne, Pennsylvania - experienced an unexpected outbreak of Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease amongst the attending children. Staff had attempted to control the viral outbreak for several weeks to no avail, with the disease still running rampant within the facility with no sign of relenting. In an effort to finally stem both the disease presence and transference, the facility turned to the utilization of SteraMist® products in their existing hospital inventory for treatment with ionized Hydrogen Peroxide (iHP™) technology.

SCOPE OF WORK:

BRIGHT HORIZONS DAYCARE FACILITY:

To remediate entire rooms and high-touch surfaces, the whole facility required SteraMist® treatment without interfering with daily daycare operations. To ensure this was accomplised, quick treatment was preferred.

MEETING THE NEED:

To control the spread of pathogens without affecting facility operations, the daycare facility was treated during downtime on a Saturday. Steramist iHP™ was quickly and effectively applied to the entirety of the facility and its high-touch and high-traffic areas, including surfaces, hallways, classrooms, staircases, and activity areas.

THE RESULT:

Within the timeframe of a single day, SteraMist® was seamlessly applied to the entire daycare facility. As a result, the disease has not reappeared since the initial treatment and operations were able to resume, providing both students and staff with peace-of-mind.

MEDICAL FACILITY

LOS ANGELES COUNTY - USC MEDICAL CENTER

OVERVIEW:

After water-based mold damage was discovered in the Los Angeles County - USC Medical Center, the facility, following ICRA standards, utilized SteraMist® for emergency final-step remediation clearance after remediating the damaged area using a third party. The affected room in question was critical to hospital operations: the Central Sterile Processing Room. With the mold present in the room, medical equipment sterilization was impossible and the hospital was forced to halt surgeries and various other elective operations.

SCOPE OF WORK:

Los Angeles County - USC Medical Center:

SterMist® would need to be applied to 5 rooms within the facility, and a focus upon quick treatment turnaround time was stressed.

LABOR:

• 4 Certified SteraMist® Technicians.
• 17 gallons of SteraMist® BIT™ used.
• 12 hour treatment time, including setup, treatment, breakdown, and aeration.

MEETING THE NEED:

A crew of 4 certified SteraMist® Technicians set up the necessary equipment and completed the requested disinfection using 14 SteraMist® Environment Systems. This enabled them to treat multiple rooms simultaneously and remotely, and equipment breakdown was hassle-free.

THE RESULT:

Within 12 hours, the facility was treated with SteraMist® iHP™ technology and the results were validated using both biological and chemical indicators. The residual mold damage was successfully remediated with minimal downtime and facility services have since resumed.

SMOKE, SOOT, & SCHOOLS

OVERVIEW:

After the Thomas Fire pushed through Southern California at an alarming rate of an acre per second, ASR was faced with a growing list of service call requests from the neighboring town of Santa Paula and a dwindling workforce due to evacuations. After calling an emergency crew meeting, ASR was contacted by both the Santa Paula and Ojai School Districts requesting smoke odor and soot intrusion remediation efforts for the entirety of each district. As the ash fell for the following weeks, ASR contacted trusted sub-contractors, gathered their SterMist® equipment, and began their work.

SCOPE OF WORK:

Santa Paul School District:

• 8 Schools in need of service, each with 25-30 classrooms, a library, a cafeteria, bathrooms, and staff offices.

Ojai School District:

• 10 schools in need of service, similar in size to those in the SPSD with the exception of two - a middle and high school almost twice as large as the others.

LABOR:

• An initial ASR workforce of 12 emergency crewmembers, three DKI franchises, and 50 contracted hires
• 4 days allotted for each individual school, at approximately two hours per room.
• An initial deadline of two weeks, but three was allotted due to Christmas break.

MEETING THE NEED:

Having invested in SteraMist® not long before the first, they were confident in it’s ability to both disinfect and deodorize in a short window of time. This would not only cut down on germs with a six-log kill, but leave the rooms smelling deodorized in the span of an hour or so. Gaining the approval of the school district and their insurance carrier almost immediately. ASR began their work. Each room was sealed up to prevent the re-entry of ash, and once each room was cleaned, SteraMist® was deployed.

THE RESULT:

After working tediously for three straight weeks - including weekends and holidays - the teams utilizing SteraMist® were able to complete 13 schools for a $3.7 million service request, providing a fresher, cleaner environment for the students and solidifying their relationship with the community school districts.
